We are committed to operating in as sustainable and responsible a way as possible, consciously placing the welfare of our customers, staff, communities & the environment at the forefront of everything we do.

Whilst we know there is still a long way to go, we have made a mindful start and are proud of what we have already achieved. We wanted to share some of this with you.

REDUCING WASTE

ELIMINATING OVER 10,000 PIECES OF SINGLE USE PLASTIC

ELIMINATING OVER 10,000 PIECES OF SINGLE USE PLASTIC

We’ve removed all straws & stirrers & switched from plastic condiment bottles to reusable, lidded glass jars, cutting 10,000+ items of plastic a year from our operation.

50% REDUCTION IN USE OF PAPER MENUS

50% REDUCTION IN USE OF PAPER MENUS

To reduce paper waste, we have introduced QR codes to view our food & drink menus electronically. With your help, we aim to reduce the use of paper menus by at least 50% over the next 12 months.

AVOIDING UNNECESSARY PACKAGING

We’ve switched to a exciting new premium tonic range, Buzbee’s. Interesting flavours & low in calories, the brand is also passionate about bee conservation AND their product comes with ZERO plastic packaging.

We stock Tyrells crisps. Tyrells have improved packaging efficiency enabling them to take 298 lorries off the road annually, cutting almost 60k miles & saving over 94 tonnes of C02!

We buy all our loose bar snacks in supersized packs with less overall packaging.

We’re proactively engaging with suppliers, encouraging them to review their packaging & are committed to making decisions with packaging in mind when selecting products.

CUTTING FOOD WASTE

CUTTING FOOD WASTE

Our food waste initiatives range from offering Little Tummy dishes for those with a smaller appetite to doggy bags for leftovers to be taken home.

Furthermore, we conducted a food waste trial to identify specifically which items contributed the most to our food waste. The answer was burger buns! A number of our customers found the volume of bread simply too much and were too full to finish their plate of food. As a result, we introduced a half bun or no bun option with our burgers, offering to make a donation to charity for each bunless or half bun burger ordered. Customers who prefer less bread are happy, we have cut our food waste AND are contributing more funds to our nominated charity

Our chef team are focussed on minimising waste in the preparation of food. For example, vegetable peelings are used to create the most flavourful base for our amazing gravy. Each pub also uses a compost bin which provides valuable compost for our kitchen gardens.

RECYCLING

REDUCE REFUSE COLLECTIONS BY UP TO 75% BY THE END OF 2021

We have always sorted our glass, card, paper, plastic, cans & foil for recycling. Now, we are also recycling our non-compostable food waste, which will be collected for conversion into organic fertiliser or animal feed & sold to local farmers. By improving our food waste handling, we reduced our refuse collections by up to 50% by the end of 2021.

OVER 3000 LITRES OF USED COOKING OIL CONVERTED TO BIO DIESEL!

Our used cooking oil is collected by Olleco who convert it into high quality, low carbon bio diesel with 3360 litres recycled across the Moogies pubs.

LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY

LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY

Where possible, we’re using technology to reduce paper waste. Aside from menu QR codes, we’ve invested in iPads to take customer orders instead of notepads. All staff inductions & training are now done electronically & our previous paper rota has been replaced by a more efficient, electronic tool.

We accept contactless payments valid for up to £100.

We are also investigating the option to provide customers with email receipts.

BUYING BRITISH & SUPPORT SEASONAL & LOCAL PRODUCE

Where possible, we support British produce & are working with our suppliers to build a better understanding of traceability

Our new house ale, Moogies Fudgel, is 100% British, crafted for us by the Chiltern Brewery using UK Maris Otter malt & all British varieties of hops.

Our menus are refreshed every few months so that we can incorporate seasonal produce.

We are passionate about sourcing products locally & are constantly reviewing opportunities to buy from local producers.

For example, we buy our eggs from Dinton Farm (all free range). We buy venison & game from Wild Venison & Game based in Wood Eaton. Our ales are delivered direct from breweries in Buckinghamshire & our wine list includes an English Sparkling wine from Sussex.

This is an area that we are committed to expanding. We look forward to bringing you more exciting local produce.

COMMUNITIES

OVER £950,000 INVESTED IN RE-OPENING & UPGRADING LOCAL PUBS

Moogies was established in 2013 to acquire existing pubs & restaurants that were underperforming or closed & through investment, turn them into sustainable businesses, recognised & valued by the communities they serve. The company is 100% privately owned, operated & financed, allowing us to make all decisions in the best interest of the venues, our customers & the people who work for us.

MORE THAN JUST A PUB

MORE THAN JUST A PUB

We like to engage with the local community in a number of ways, including providing support for local fundraising events, showcasing art from local artists, running a local book club from The Black Boy, inviting local musicians to get involved with our summer busking event, hosting Brush Party painting classes in a number of our venues & of course providing local employment!

PARTNERING WITH OUR COMPANY CHARITY

We’ve always supported local charities. Our ‘dish donation scheme’ has raised over £6,600 for local charities so far.

We also host monthly charity quiz nights, put collection tins on the bar, raise funds through raffles & staff fundraising initiatives & support the charities own fundraising events where we can.

Our current ‘Company Charity’ is The PACE Centre, based in Aylesbury, a ground-breaking children’s charity that transforms the lives of children & young people with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy.

In 2022, we aim to build our relationship further with PACE by introducing opportunities for our staff to interact directly with the charity & vice versa.
